Introduction: Prenatal care is extremely important for women during pregnancy and for this reason, health professionals should assume the role of educators, and promote actions and share knowledge seeking to promote women's self-confidence and autonomy and guide the experience of a positive pregnancy and empowerment in childbirth and postpartum. Objective: To identify the knowledge of pregnant women about the role of nursing in prenatal care. Materials and Methods: Qualitative study developed through an interview with a semi-structured questionnaire with pregnant women who underwent prenatal care at a Basic Family Health Unit (UBSF). The study took place in May 2015, and pregnant women over 18 years of age who had at least three prenatal consultations were invited to participate. After transcribing the interviews, the responses were analyzed according to Bardin's “Content Analysisâ€. Results: Four axes emerged: (I) knowledge of the laws that benefit pregnant women; (II) humanized delivery and the choice of delivery to be performed, (III) the expectations and feelings generated, (VI) the quality of care provided by the pregnant woman's eyes. Conclusion: With the data obtained, there is a need to improve the quality of care for pregnant women, and it is clear that quality prenatal care directly affects the reduction of maternal and child morbidity and mortality rates. Through the consultations, a bond with this future mother would be established, which would provide extremely important information for the moment of delivery and postpartum recovery.
