Difficulties of patients in adherence to the treatment of diabetes and hypertension attended in Primary Care

Abstract

Chronic diseases such as SAH (Systemic Arterial Hypertension) and DM (Diabetes Mellitus) develop progressively and are often asymptomatic. The study aims to evaluate the difficulties faced in adherence to the treatment of diabetes mellitus and systemic arterial hypertension by patients using primary care. The research was carried out through a search for scientific studies in the following databases: Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO), Latin American and Caribbean Literature on Health Sciences (LILACS) via the Virtual Health Library (VHL), from November to December 2020. In the first search, 198 articles were captured, and after the applicability of the inclusion criteria, 126 studies remained. In the first detailed analysis, 25 works were selected, of which, after a thorough reading in order to assess their coherence with the proposal, 12 studies that escaped or did not correspond to the purpose of the research were discarded, leaving 13 scientific productions that were reviewed and used in the research. . In the present study, it is notable that patients with chronic diseases (SAH and DM) need a complete health care and correct orientations, clarifications regarding the use of medications, being the main difficulties for adherence to treatment, it was the routine of medication, physical exercise, adequate food and not going to the health service for routine consultations. It should also be noted that the care for hypertensive and diabetic patients needs to be holistic, multidisciplinary, in order to promote health education and the individual's engagement in activities aimed at their treatment, in order to meet their health needs and provide them with a better quality of life.
