Introduction: Population aging is a growing phenomenon in Brazil, and proper nutrition is essential for maintaining health and quality of life in the elderly population. Objective: To analyze food consumption among the elderly Brazilian population, in relation to the number of meals they eat per day and whether they eat while watching television, using food consumption indicators from the Food and Nutrition Surveillance System (SISVAN-2024). Materials and Methods: This was a quantitative observational study with an ecological design, conducted with the elderly population using the Unified Health System (SUS), based on public data from SISVAN-2024 regarding the number of daily meals and the habit of eating in front of the television. Results and discussion: The findings revealed that 88% maintain the habit of eating three main meals, while 31% said they eat while watching television. The North and Northeast regions showed the best results in terms of meal regularity, with Piauí (95%) and Amazonas (94%) standing out. The South, on the other hand, recorded the lowest percentage (80%), mainly in Rio Grande do Sul (70%). Regarding the habit of eating in front of the television, the highest percentages were observed in the Midwest (38%) and Southeast (35%), with Rio de Janeiro (47%) and Mato Grosso (44%) standing out. The lowest percentages occurred in the North (25%) and South (26%), with Acre and Pará (20%) standing out positively. Conclusion: However, the majority of the population maintains the practice of three meals a day, but the habit of eating meals in front of the television is still frequent. The regional inequalities observed reinforce the need for public policies and interventions.
