School adolescents’ perception of obstetric violence through photolanguage: an analysis using Artificial intelligence

Abstract

Introduction: Pregnant women's lack of knowledge about their rights during labor and delivery prevents them from maintaining their agency at this time, making it easier for professionals to practice violent, unnecessary, and/or unauthorized actions. To mitigate this reality and prevent obstetric violence, it is necessary to invest in health education, especially with adolescents, as they have the capacity to combat social injustices. Objective: To understand the perception of school adolescents about obstetric violence before and after an educational intervention using photolanguage. Materials and methods: An interpretive study with a qualitative approach, whose guiding question was: How do school adolescents perceive obstetric violence before and after an educational intervention using photolanguage? Conducted with adolescent students from a public school in the interior of Pernambuco, in 2024, using a validated photolanguage resource that addresses examples of the most diverse types of obstetric violence. The data were transcribed and analyzed using the Collective Subject Discourse method with the support of the AI ​​Pro CHATPro artificial intelligence, ChatGPT, version 4.0. Results and Discussion: A generic and superficial understanding of obstetric violence was observed before the educational intervention. After the intervention, there was recognition of the violation of pregnant women's rights. Conversely, the belief that certain procedures are necessary persists. Conclusion: Using photolanguage as an educational intervention, it was possible to stimulate individual and critical social empowerment on the subject, providing an understanding of what obstetric violence is, with perspectives for preventing new cases.
